Mookie Betts to Host Celebrity Softball Game at Dodger Stadium on Thursday During Black Heritage Night
MOOKIE BETTS TO HOST CELEBRITY SOFTBALL GAME AT DODGER STADIUM ON THURSDAY DURING BLACK HERITAGE NIGHT
LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers, along with three-time World Series champion, Mookie Betts, will host a celebrity softball game on Thursday afternoon, June 19, ahead of Black Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium. The Juneteenth game will feature a host of celebrities from the sports and entertainment industries. Tickets remain on sale for the 7:10 p.m. start against the San Diego Padres at Dodgers.com/tickets and fans are encouraged to arrive early to watch the softball game, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The two celebrity softball teams will be coached by none other than Mookie Betts himself, along with former NBA star Matt Barnes. The duo will provide live in-game commentary while coaching their respective teams, who will don customized Juneteenth cream and black jerseys. The jerseys will also have Betts’ celebrity softball patch on the sleeve.
Players, umpires and spectators will include singers and songwriters Nelly, Lil’ Wayne, Dom Kennedy, Lizzo, Big Boi, Victoria Monét, AzChike and music executive Karen Civil. Athletes across professional and amateur sports including MLB, NBA, NFL and the ATP Tour, will also play, specifically Terrell Owens, James Loney, Jordan Love and Mo’ne Davis. Rounding out the teams will be comedian and actors Anthony Anderson, Rel Howery, Karrueche Tran, among others.
“I’m super excited to host the first celebrity softball game on Black Heritage Night,” said Betts. “It’s going to be a good time with great vibes, and something I hope to do for years to come. Thank you to everyone who is playing in the game and helped put on this event.”
Before and after the celebrity softball game, the Harmony Project will play around the outfield warning track. The Harmony Project is a Los Angeles based music education organization committed to empowering low-income families and under-resourced communities through musical arts. During the game, DJ Severe will play walk-up music for the players and music between innings.
Dodger Stadium gates will open at 5:10 p.m., and the celebrity softball game will kick off festivities in and around the stadium in recognition of Black Heritage Night at 5:30 p.m. Fans will also hear from DJ B. Rush, and those who purchased a special ticket pack will receive an exclusive striped Mookie Betts jersey. Specialty food and drinks inspired by Betts’ hometown, Nashville, will be served around the ballpark, including Nashville hot chicken wings and Mookie’s mac and cheese, served in Left Field Plaza, Reserve Secs. 4 and 31 and Right Field Plaza. A sweet potato pie topped with whipped cream will be served in Field Sec. 46 and Reserve Sec. 2. Mookie’s Music City Mule, a specialty cocktail, will be available at bar locations throughout Dodger Stadium.
