Mets Acquire All-Star LHP Gregory Soto

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 25, 2025 – The New York Mets announced that they have acquired LHP Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for minor league pitchers RHP Wellington Aracena and RHP Cameron Foster.

Soto, 30, has made 45 appearances for the Orioles this year, posting a 3.96 ERA (16 ER/36.1 IP) with 18 walks and 44 strikeouts. The left-handed reliever has held fellow southpaws to a .138 (8-58) average with eight walks and 22 strikeouts. In 21 games since June 4, left-handed hitters are 0-for-23 with 14 strikeouts against Soto.

Since 2023, Soto is tied for seventh in the majors with 53 holds and this year ranked seventh in the American League with 18 holds. He was selected to the American League All-Star team as member of the Detroit Tigers in 2021 and 2022.

In parts of seven major league seasons, Soto has posted a 14-31 record with a 4.24 ERA (167 ER/354.1 IP), 187 walks and 384 strikeouts. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Tigers in 2012. The native of the Dominican Republic was acquired by the Orioles from the Philadelphia Phillies on July 30 last year for RHP Moisés Chace and RHP Seth Johnson.

Aracena, 20, was signed as a non-drafted free agent in January of 2022. He appeared in four seasons in the Mets system, going 7-14 with a 4.53 ERA (87 ER/173.0 IP). The righty appeared in 17 games (eight starts) with the St. Lucie Mets, going 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA (17 ER/64.1 IP), 35 walks and 84 strikeouts.

Foster, 26, was selected by New York in the 14th round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft from McNeese State University. He went 13-10 with a 3.78 ERA (77 ER/183.1 IP), 72 walks and 192 strikeouts with the Mets minor league affiliates. The righty split the season between Binghamton and Syracuse combining to go 5-2 with a 2.97 ERA (10 ER/30.1 IP), eight walks and 39 strikeouts in 21 games (one start).
