Dodgers Recall Matt Sauer

DODGERS RECALL MATT SAUER

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer and optioned right-handed pitcher Paul Gervase.

Sauer, 26, returns for his fifth stint with the club and he is 2-1 with 6.18 ERA in nine games this campaign. Last season, he made his Major League debut as a member of the Kansas City Royals and went 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA in 14 games. With Triple-A Oklahoma City, he was 5-4 with a 4.86 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 76 innings. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the second round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Ernest Righetti High School (Santa Maria, Calif.).

Gervase, 25, pitched two innings last night in his Dodger debut, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts. He was acquired on July 31 from the Tampa Bay Rays in the three-team trade. He appeared in five games with the Rays this season, striking out six batters in 6.1 innings. In four minor league seasons, he is 13-8 with a 2.93 ERA and 261 strikeouts in 162.1 innings. The 6-foot, 10-inch hurler was drafted by the New York Mets in the 12th round of the 2022 First Year Player Draft out of Louisiana State University.
