Colorado Rockies Acquire Minor League Pitcher Austin Smith from Atlanta Braves in exchange for Right-Handed Pitcher Tyler Kinley

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have acquired Minor League right-handed pitcher Austin Smith via trade with the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyler Kinley.

Smith, 26, has gone 0-4 with a 4.31 ERA (31.1 IP, 15 ER), four saves, 15 walks and 34 strikeouts in 29 relief outings between High-A Rome and Double-A Columbus this season … recorded a 2.38 ERA (11.1 IP, 3 ER) with four walks and 13 strikeouts in 11 games for Rome before being promoted to Columbus on May 13 where he has posted a 5.40 ERA (20.0 IP, 12 ER) with 11 walks and 21 strikeouts in 18 games … the Cedar Park, Texas native has pitched five seasons in the Braves’ system since 2021, going 3-10 with a 5.10 ERA (114.2 IP, 65 ER), 18 saves, 63 walks and 131 strikeouts over 107 games (one start) … was named a 2022 Arizona Fall League Rising Star … pitched three seasons collegiately for Southwestern University (Texas) before transferring to the University of Arizona … was selected by Atlanta in the 18th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

Kinley, 34, has gone 1-3 with a 5.66 ERA (47.2 IP, 30 ER), three saves, 27 walks and 51 strikeouts in 49 games with the Rockies in 2025 … in six seasons with Colorado has gone 11-13 with a 5.05 ERA (246.0 IP, 138 ER), 20 saves, 110 walks and 261 strikeouts in 253 games … his 253 relief appearances for the Rockies rank 15th in franchise history … was selected off waivers by Colorado from Miami on December 9, 2019 before signing a three-year extension with the Rockies in November 2022.
