RHP Mark Leiter Jr.
Injury: Left fibular head stress fracture
IL date: July 8 (15-day; retroactive to July 7)
Expected return: Aug. 4-6
Status: Threw live batting practice on July 31 at Yankee Stadium, a precursor to appearing in a Minor League rehab game over the weekend before being activated during the Aug. 4-6 Texas series. (updated July 31) More >>
RHP Clarke Schmidt
Injury: Tommy John surgery
IL date: July 4 (15-day, transferred to 60-day on July 30)
Expected return: Likely 2027
Status: Underwent Tommy John surgery July 11. Schmidt said July 28 it was not a full reconstruction, with an internal brace used. He has been given a recovery timeline of 11-13 months, and he was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 30. This was Schmidt’s second TJ procedure; his first was when he was a junior at University of South Carolina. (updated July 30) More >>

Injury: Flexor strain in right elbow
IL date: July 27 (retroactive to 7/26)
Expected return: Possibly Aug. 5
Status: Resumed light cage work July 29 and could continue that through the week, then incorporate machine work against velocity over the weekend. Aaron Boone said the goal for resuming throwing is in the Aug. 8-13 window. (updated July 29) More >>

Injury: Right oblique strain
IL date: June 20 (15-day)
Expected return: August/September
Status: Has resumed throwing from bullpen mounds, Aaron Boone said on July 29. Will continue to build stamina as he aims to get to a higher pitch count. (updated July 29) More >>
3B Oswaldo Cabrera
Injury: Left ankle fracture
IL date: May 13 (10-day IL, transferred to 60-day IL on June 19)
Expected return: Likely 2026
Status: Underwent surgery to repair a fractured left ankle and ligament damage May 15. Manager Aaron Boone: “probably unlikely” Cabrera will return this season. On June 5, Cabrera said recovery is going well; using scooter and protective boot. Has not ruled out returning this year. (updated June 19) More >>
RHP Jake Cousins
Injury: Right UCL tear
IL date: March 27 (60-day)
Expected return: 2026
Status: Club announced on June 16 that Cousins will have Tommy John surgery, which he underwent on June 18. (updated June 19) More >>
RHP Gerrit Cole
Injury: Right elbow ligament tear
IL date: March 22 (60-day)
Expected return: 2026
Status: Underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on March 11 in Los Angeles. The procedure, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, was a complete UCL reconstruction that also included an internal brace. Cole said May 5 he expects to resume playing catch in August and is planning on a 14-month recovery from the date of surgery. (updated May 6) More >>
