Here are Saturday's top prospect performances from the Minors

Things are busy around the Minors. Top 100 prospects Bubba Chandler (Pirates), Samuel Basallo (Orioles), Carson Williams (Rays) and Jhostynxon Garcia (Red Sox) were all called up in the past seven days. But there are still plenty of other names making their case for a late-season bump to The Show. Throw in that we're slowly introducing 2025 draftees to the mix AND the introduction of a new playoff format in the Dominican Summer League, and hey, you know the old saying: sleep is overrated.
Jonah Tong, RHP, Syracuse (NYM No. 4/MLB No. 44)
So far, it’s been new level, no problem for the Minor Leagues’ ERA leader. Tong, making his second start at Triple-A, once again dazzled for Syracuse with six scoreless innings. The 22-year-old had runners at first and second with no outs in each of his front two frames, but eventually overwhelmed batters with his four-pitch mix and logged 21 swings-and-misses. Tong enjoyed a run of 13 batters retired in a row, finishing with eight strikeouts; of his 22 starts this year, 15 have seen him finish with eight or more punchouts. Considering that stat, he maybe unsurprisingly leads the Minors with 179 K’s in 2025, while also holding batters to a .148 average against (best in MiLB, min. 65 innings). Gameday

JJ Wetherholt, SS, Memphis (STL No. 1/MLB No. 6)
It would probably be prudent to give Wetherholt a permanent spot on this list. Batting .306 across two levels in late August, he is one of just four hitters in the Minors with a 65-grade or better hit tool, which he backed up in his latest outing with a single and two doubles. It marks his 30th multihit performance of the season, which is his first full pro campaign after being drafted seventh overall last July. The 22-year-old boasts a 1.056 OPS at Triple-A as speculation about when his call to The Show might arrive. Gameday

Thomas White, LHP, Pensacola (MIA No. 1/MLB No. 21)
Now in his second full month with Double-A Pensacola, White is taking the Southern League by storm. The lefty tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out seven batters while scattering five hits. He is up to 32 strikeouts this month with a 1.33 ERA over his four starts. As his second full pro season nears its end, the 20-year-old has shown great consistency, allowing more than two runs in just three of his 18 starts across High-A and Double-A. Gameday

Lazaro Montes, OF, Arkansas (SEA No. 3/MLB No. 29)
The 6-foot-5 slugger keeps flexing his 65-grade power. Montes went deep for the sixth time in his past seven games for Double-A Arkansas, swatting his 32nd homer of the season between two levels. It marked the lefty-swinging outfielder’s third long ball in two days, allowing him to keep pace in a tie for the Minors’ home run lead alongside Yankees prospect Spencer Jones. Gameday

Sal Stewart, 3B/2B, Louisville (CIN No. 1/MLB No. 31)
Make it three consecutive months that Cincy’s top prospect has delivered a multihomer performance. When the 21-year-old was bumped up to Triple-A, the one question mark remaining in his offensive game was whether the power would come -- and it certainly has. Stewart’s first homer of the night was a gargantuan shot that traveled 460 feet at 112.4 mph off the bat. His second was no cheapy either, hit on a frozen rope to right at 106.8 mph. In 32 contests since arriving in Louisville, Stewart is hitting .317 with a 1.046 OPS. Gameday

Gavin Fien, SS, Hickory (TEX No. 2)
Talk about an introduction to pro ball! The 12th overall pick from the 2025 Draft nearly went deep in his first professional at-bat for Single-A Hickory, instead settling for an RBI triple. Fien added a line-drive single to plate a pair in the eighth inning to cap off a three-RBI performance. The 18-year-old flew up Draft boards this summer due to his strong track record of success on the amateur circuit, namely with Team USA. He won MVP honors at the 2024 High School All-American Game and brings an exciting all-around tool package to the Rangers’ system. Gameday

George Klassen, RHP, Rocket City (LAA No. 4)
Klassen’s raw stuff has never been in doubt, it’s merely been a matter of harnessing it consistently. He certainly did so in his latest outing for Double-A Rocket City, spinning six scoreless frames for the third time in his career (first in 2025). The 23-year-old finished with 17 whiffs in total, including six in the first inning alone. His two distinct breaking balls had opposing batters rendered helpless, while his fastball sat in the 96-97 mph range. The overall season numbers aren’t pretty (6.09 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) but the University of Minnesota product has struck out 102 batters across 85 2/3 innings. Gameday

Bo Davidson, OF, Richmond (SF No. 5)
The 23-year-old outfielder snapped out of a quiet August in style with his third multihomer game of the season. Davidson led off with a long ball for Double-A Richmond and added another in the seventh, both against right-handers, to continue his strong splits (.289/.391/.503 vs. RHP). While he owns just a .633 OPS this month, Davidson still carries an .852 OPS overall, bolstered by 36 extra-base hits in 99 games. Gameday

Ben Hess, RHP, Somerset (NYY No. 6)
The Yankees’ 2024 first-rounder strung together his second straight strong outing with Double-A Somerset, striking out nine over five innings of two-run ball. Having earned a promotion on Aug. 5, the Alabama product has yielded only four hits while fanning 14 across his past two starts. After battling injuries in June, Hess has rebounded with a 2.40 ERA over his past 10 starts, punching out 56 in 45 frames. Gameday

Tommy White, 3B, Midland (ATH No. 9)
Despite earning the nickname “Tommy Tanks” at LSU, White had yet to his a home run in his first 22 games at Double-A. That changed when the infielder mashed one to right field en route to a three-hit performance. White has hits in eight of his past nine contests as he starts to hit his stride with Midland. He is now batting .295, surpassing the .260 mark he set across 66 games at High-A to start his season. Gameday

Charles Davalan, OF, Rancho Cucamonga (LAD No. 15)
You never know what to expect from players in the short time between the Draft and the end of the season, particularly those who are coming off of a grueling college slate. After making it all the way to Omaha with the University of Arkansas, Davalan decided to keep the momentum going at Single-A. His latest outing saw him go 4-for-6 while crushing his first pro homer on a 4-RBI night for the Quakes. Four games into his career, Davalan is batting .579 with a 1.461 OPS. Gameday
