Walcott stays at No. 1 in latest Rangers prospect rankings

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers dealt six pitching prospects -- five of whom were in their Top 30 -- at this year’s Trade Deadline, nearly depleting what had been an area of strength on the farm.

But Texas was able to hold onto a number of pitching prospects it values, keeping together a core of guys that could contribute to the big league club as soon as 2026.

Nineteen-year-old phenom Sebastian Walcott remains the club’s only Top 100 prospect, but an influx of draft picks reinforced the position player crop that had been slightly lacking since the graduations of Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford in 2024.

“I think anytime that you trade seven players from the farm system, it takes a little bit of a hit,” general manager Ross Fenstermaker said at the Deadline. “But we think we're still in a good spot. We feel like we have layers of depth in the organization and [director of amateur scouting] Kip [Fagg] and his group did a tremendous job in the Draft.”

Here’s a look at the Rangers' top prospects:

  1. Sebastian Walcott, SS (MLB No. 4)
  2. Gavin Fien, SS
  3. Jose Corniell, RHP
  4. Winston Santos, RHP
  5. A.J. Russell, RHP

Biggest jump/fall
Here are the players whose ranks changed the most from the preseason list:

Jump: Caden Scarborough, RHP (Preseason: 28 | Midseason: 8) – Scarborough is a bit of a work in progress, but the Rangers have been more than pleased with his work over the last year since they selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He’s shown polish as one of the younger arms in the system and has posted a 3.09 ERA in 70 innings with Single-A Hickory this season.

Jump: Devin Fitz-Gerald, INF (Preseason: NR | Midseason: 12) – The switch-hitting shortstop has put on one of the best position player performances on the farm this season, slashing .302/.428/.482 across 42 games with the ACL Rangers and Single-A Hickory. Texas drafted him in the fifth round last July out of Stoneman Douglas HS (Parkland, Fla.), where his father, Todd, is the head coach and has mentored players such as Roman Anthony, Jesús Luzardo and Coby Mayo.

Fall: Malcolm Moore, C (Preseason: 4 | Midseason: 11) – It’s not a far fall, but Moore -- the Rangers’ 2024 first-rounder -- had his first full professional season derailed by a broken finger on his right hand. He hit .267 with a .930 OPS across his first nine games with High-A Hub City. But he’s struggled to a .181/.229/.245 slash line in 26 games since his return to Spartanburg as he’s tried to regain feel for his swing. The Rangers are confident in Moore’s ability to bounce back over the last six weeks of the Minor League season, putting him in a good position for 2026.
