You’ve probably seen a magician pull a rabbit out of a hat, but have you seen a rabbit throw out a first pitch?

On Saturday night, Alex the Great, a Flemish Giant rabbit, kicked off Reno’s Harry Potter night with his own bit of magic. With the help of a pitching machine, Alex bounced the ball toward home for the ceremonial first pitch at Greater Nevada Field, keeping the audience spellbound.

Typically, you shouldn’t hunt two hares, but Alex the Great is no stranger to the spotlight. With 54,000+ followers on Instagram, the Bay Area bunny entertains the masses with his unmistakable swagger, especially when he takes his custom Mercedes for a spin. Known for his unwavering support for his local sports teams, Alex even made a television appearance earlier this year in the stands of a San Francisco Giants game.

But life hasn’t been all carrot and no stick for the bunny. Alex was rescued from a meat farm in Modesto before his adoption by Josh Row and Kathreen Kei Koc. He has since become the only certified therapy rabbit in the country and gives back by visiting hospitals and charity events. With his friendly demeanor and 30 pounds of fluff, Alex is always eager to lend an ear to those in need.

And since it’s been a while since a rabbit made a special appearance at a Minor League stadium, who better than Alex the Great to serve as the official baseball bunny ambassador?
