Miami Marlins Make 17 Selections on day 2 of 2025 MLB first-year player draft
MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today completed the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, making 17 selections on Day 2. All of Miami’s 21 selections in this year’s draft came from the collegiate ranks, including 11 position players and 11 pitchers.
On Day 1 of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, the Marlins selected SS Aiva Arquette with the seventh-overall selection in addition to outfielders Cam Cannarella (43rd overall), Brandon Compton (46th overall), and Max Williams (78th overall).
Arquette ranked as the consensus top college position player in the 2025 class out of Oregon State, the fifth-best overall prospect by Baseball America, and the sixth-best overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. He led the Beavers to the program’s eighth Men’s College World Series appearance by hitting .360 (18x50) with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, and 6 RBI in 11 tournament games.
Cannarella made 168 starts in center field during his three seasons (2023-25) with Clemson, highlighted by his ACC Freshman of the Year award in 2023 and a .353 batting average (82x232) and 1.010 OPS during his junior season in 2025. Compton slashed .310/.401/.568 (125x403) with 35 doubles, 23 home runs, and 105 RBI in 111 games over two seasons at Arizona State, which included Pac-12 Freshman of the Year accolades. Williams ranked second in the ACC with 19 home runs in 2025 while defensively registering a .991 fielding percentage exclusively in center field.
With the first selection on Day 2, Miami drafted SS Drew Faurot (fuh-row) in the fourth round (108th overall) out of Florida State University, as the switch-hitting infielder earned First-Team All-ACC honors following a 58-game, junior campaign where he slashed .307/.388/.564 (67x218) with 51 runs, eight doubles, 16 home runs, and 51 RBI.
Also highlighting Miami’s Day 2 selections are a pair of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School teammates 1B Chris Arroyo (5th round, 139th overall) and RHP Jake Clemente (7th round, 198th overall). The duo are two of Miami’s six selections that either played high school or college ball in the state of Florida.
Other Day 2 selections include: LHP Joey Volini (sixth round, 168th overall) from Florida State University, SS Emilio Barreras (eighth round, 228th overall) from Grand Canyon University, LHP Kaiden Wilson (ninth round, 258th overall) from Texas A&M University, 2B Jake McCutcheon (10th round, 288th overall) from Missouri State University, C Wilson Weber from Oregon State University (12th round, 348th overall), and RHP Chase Renner (13th round, 378th overall) from Penn State University.
