O's Minor Leaguer Luis Guevara passes away at age 19
BALTIMORE -- Luis Guevara, an infielder in the Orioles’ Minor League system, has died, the team announced on Tuesday. He was 19.
Guevara was involved in a jet ski crash on Sunday in Sarasota, Fla., where two watercrafts had a head-on collision off Lido Key. The O’s postponed their Florida Complex League games on Monday and Tuesday following the incident.
“Luis was a beloved member of our organization, and we are devastated following his tragic passing,” Orioles general manager Mike Elias said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and teammates, and we ask for their continued privacy during this difficult time.”
Guevara was signed by Baltimore as an international free agent out of Tinaco, Venezuela, in January 2023. He played in the Dominican Summer League during his first two seasons in the organization in ‘23 and ‘24.
This year, Guevara made his stateside debut. He played 24 games for Single-A Delmarva and two with Double-A Chesapeake before appearing in four FCL games last week.
