SEATTLE -- Right-hander Kyle Wright’s road back to the Major Leagues hit a speed bump when an MRI revealed a Grade 2 left oblique strain.
Wright, who has been on the comeback trail from surgery on his right shoulder, pulled himself out of a scheduled Friday night start with Triple-A Omaha after feeling tightness in his side during a pregame bullpen session and had the MRI on Monday.
“He's going to be shut down for now,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “We'll reevaluate in two weeks. He might be able to do some stuff before that, but it’ll be about two weeks until we reevaluate.”
Wright, 30, had surgery on his right shoulder in late 2023 and spent 2024 rehabbing. He pitched in Spring Training this year and had two rehab stints this season. The Royals activated Wright last Monday and optioned him to Triple-A to give him time to progress back toward starting games.
