Here are Giants' Draft picks from Day 2

A clear theme emerged for the Giants at the top of the 2025 MLB Draft.

After taking Tennessee shortstop Gavin Kilen in the first round and Rutgers outfielder Trevor Cohen in the third round on Sunday, the Giants showed their affinity for contact-oriented hitters who can play premium positions up the middle when the Draft resumed on Monday.

“We like living in the middle of the diamond,” senior director of amateur scouting Michael Holmes said Sunday. “We like guys that make elite contact. … It’s the type of player that we are attracted to.”

The Giants continued to prioritize those skills at the outset of Day 2. Here’s a breakdown of all of the club’s picks from Rounds 4-20 (San Francisco sacrificed its second- and fifth-round selections after signing qualified free agent Willy Adames over the offseason):

Lorenzo Meola, SS

• Round 4 (No. 116 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Stetson (Fla.)
• Calling card: Meola -- the cousin of the great USA soccer goalkeeper Tony Meola -- is viewed as a plus defender on the dirt who can make a lot of contact from the right side. He won ASUN Tournament MVP honors as a sophomore, then earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-ASUN honors this spring, when he batted .327 with 11 home runs, nine doubles, two triples and 10 stolen bases over 57 games for Stetson.
• Quote: “He has high contact skills, and he showed power this year. If we get a shortstop that touches the baseball, has some power, has the plus athleticism, we’re really happy to have him.” -- Holmes

Jordan Gottesman, LHP

• Round 6 (No. 176 overall)
• Bats/throws: L/L
• School: Northeastern (Mass.)
• Calling card: Listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Gottesman is the first pitcher drafted by the Giants this year. He logged a 2.27 ERA with 17 walks and 97 strikeouts over 83 1/3 innings in 16 appearances (12 starts) as a graduate student for Northeastern this season. He features a five-pitch mix that includes a low 90s fastball, a slider, a changeup, a cutter and an upper 70s curveball.
• Quote: “It’s a pitchability lefty with really solid velocity. He’s an excellent strike-thrower. He was able to eat a lot of innings this year, so that lets you know there was a durability aspect to it.” -- Holmes

Cameron Maldonado, OF

• Round 7 (No. 206 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Northeastern (Mass.)
• Calling card: After drafting Gottesman, the Giants picked up Maldonado -- his Northeastern teammate -- in the next round. Maldonado possesses an intriguing power-speed combo -- he hit 15 home runs and stole 29 bases during his junior season for the Huskies -- but he also has some concerning swing-and-miss in his game and struck out 51 times in 222 at-bats this year.

Ben Bybee, RHP

• Round 8 (No. 236 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Arkansas
• Calling card: The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Bybee went 3-0 with a 4.38 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 37 innings in 18 appearances (three starts) during his junior season for the Razorbacks this year. He has good riding action on his fastball, which sits at 93-95 mph, and also mixes in a swing-and-miss changeup and a hard cutter.
• Quote: “He’s another one of these guys who has really interesting stuff and hasn’t fully harnessed it, but you’re going to take a chance on this guy in this round all the time and figure you can mold him into something.” -- MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis

Reid Worley, RHP

• Round 9 (No. 266 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Cherokee High School (Ga.)
• Calling card: The first prep player selected by the Giants, Worley dazzled at the 2025 MLB Combine after using a unique pitch grip to unleash 3,000-plus rpm breaking balls, which had the highest spin rate at the event and would be elite even by MLB standards. The 19-year-old sits at 88-91 mph with his fastball and has a commitment to Kennesaw State.
• Quote: “We obviously had a chance to see him at the Combine. He’s an athletic kid. He throws strikes. Obviously, the spin rates were eye-popping on his breaking ball, so it’s something that we’re excited about that we can help him to continue to develop.” -- Holmes

Isaiah Barkett, 2B

• Round 10 (No. 296 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Stetson (Fla.)
• Calling card: Barkett, the son of former Red Sox assistant hitting coach Andy Barkett, joined fellow infielder Meola as the Giants’ second pick out of Stetson this year. Barkett primarily batted leadoff and played third base for the Hatters during his junior season, hitting .387 with two homers and more walks (25) than strikeouts (nine) over 55 games in 2025.

Rod Barajas Jr., C

• Round 11 (No. 326 overall)
• Bats/throws: L/R
• School: Saddleback College (Calif.)
• Calling card: Barajas is a second-generation backstop, as his father, Rod Barajas, caught for the D-backs, Rangers, Phillies, Blue Jays, Mets, Dodgers and Pirates over his 12-year career in the Majors. The younger Barajas batted .289 with six home runs and 40 RBIs over 42 games as a junior college player for Saddlebrook this year.
• Quote: “We loved his bat potential. We loved his ability to swing it. We liked his path. We think there’s huge upside with the bat. … This was definitely one of the guys that our scouts continued to remind me about.” -- Holmes

Cody Delvecchio, RHP

• Round 12 (No. 356 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: UCLA
• Calling card: Delvecchio posted a 2.42 ERA over 16 relief appearances as a sophomore last year and opened the 2025 campaign as the Bruins’ Friday night starter, but he missed more than two months of his junior season after he was ruled academically ineligible. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound hurler returned to make one final start during the College World Series and topped out at 96 mph with his fastball, though he ended the year with a 6.81 ERA over eight outings.

Broedy Poppell, C

• Round 13 (No. 386 overall)
• Bats/throws: S/R
• School: Florida A&M
• Calling card: Poppell earned first-team All-SWAC honors as a catcher after hitting .325 with 12 home runs, seven doubles, nine triples and seven stolen bases over 58 games for the Rattlers this year.

Trey Seeley, RHP

• Round 14 (No. 416 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Hope International University (Calif.)
• Calling card: Seeley went 12-1 with a 1.72 ERA while walking 27 and striking out 127 over 99 1/3 innings in 18 appearances as a senior this year, leading the Royals to their second consecutive NAIA World Series appearance

Damian Bravo, OF

• Round 15 (No. 446 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Texas Tech
• Calling card: Bravo, who was ranked No. 186 on MLB Pipeline’s list of Top 250 Draft prospects, was a two-way player during his first season at Texas Tech, but he flourished after committing to hitting full-time in 2024. He batted .378 en route to capturing the Big 12 Conference batting title as a sophomore and then followed that up by hitting .330 with 13 homers and 18 stolen bases over 53 games this year.
• Quote: “He’s a line drive hitter. He steals bases. I think there’s a little bit of versatility where he can probably play a lot of different places on the field.” -- Holmes

Garrett Langrell, RHP

• Round 16 (No. 476 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Creighton (Neb.)
• Calling card: Listed at 6-foot-7, 225 pounds, Langrell earned the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award as the nation’s top Division 1 relief pitcher this year. Langrell recorded a 3.61 ERA with 13 saves as the Blue Jays’ closer, tallying 57 strikeouts and 11 walks over 52 1/3 innings in 26 relief appearances.

Luke Mensik, RHP

• Round 17 (No. 506 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Lincoln-Way Central High School (Ill.)
• Calling card: Mensik was named the South West Suburban Conference and All-Region Pitcher of the Year after recording a 0.76 ERA with 45 strikeouts over 46 innings during his senior season at Lincoln-Way Central. The Xavier recruit sits in the low 90s with his fastball and can spin the ball well.

Cooper McGrath, RHP

• Round 18 (No. 536 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Northeastern (Mass.)
• Calling card: The third Huskie taken by the Giants after Gottesman (sixth round) and Maldonado (seventh round), the 6-foot-8 McGrath logged a 1.66 ERA over 21 2/3 innings in 12 relief appearances for Northeastern this year. He pairs a 92-94 fastball with a plus upper 80s slider.
• Quote: "He’s probably more of a reliever when it's all said and done, but [he's] a 6’8” guy with kind of a unique, low angle. We were able to see him in the Draft League a little bit, where we saw his strikes get better.” -- Holmes

Braydon Risley, LHP

• Round 19 (No. 566 overall)
• Bats/throws: L/L
• School: Grayson College (Texas)
• Calling card: Listed at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Risely posted a 3.24 ERA with 83 strikeouts and 18 walks over 66 2/3 innings in 14 appearances (nine starts) for the Vikings from 2024-25.

Elijah McNeal, SS

• Round 20 (No. 596 overall)
• Bats/throws: R/R
• School: Dublin High School (Calif.)
• Calling Card: The Giants stayed local for their 18th and final pick of the 2025 Draft, selecting prep shortstop McNeal out of the East Bay. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound middle infielder is known for his glove and is committed to UC Davis.
• Quote: “We had a chance to bring him to Oracle for a workout back in early June and get a chance to know him a little bit better and watch his skills on display at Oracle. The smile he had on his face playing out there in that stadium, being somewhat of a local kid, was actually really fun to watch.” -- Holmes
