There’s something about center fielders in the Rays organization making highlight reel grabs -- Kevin Kiermaier was a standout for years in Tampa Bay, and that baton has been passed to Chandler Simpson this year.
Rays’ prospect Tristan Peters encapsulated that spirit by robbing a home run for Triple-A Durham on Wednesday night. On a fly ball hit to the center-field wall, Peters ran back to scale the wall and leaped to snatch the ball just as it was about to head over the fence.
According to Statcast, Peters had 5.8 seconds to reach this ball and needed to cover 103 feet. To pull that off while scaling the wall truly made this a Kiermaier-Rays special.
