Nationals Broadcaster Bob Carpenter to be Honored during Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 27
Longtime Washington Nationals broadcaster Bob Carpenter will be honored during a pregame retirement ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 27, and his name will be prominently displayed at Nationals Park on the façade under the broadcast booth. The announcement was shared during Capenter’s guest appearance on The 11th Inning Podcast with Kolko & Zim podcast by Nationals legend Ryan Zimmerman and MASN television broadcaster Dan Kolko. Carpenter will be the first-ever media member to have his name showcased at the ballpark, an honor worthy of his 20 years spent as the television voice of the franchise. Fans in attendance for the 4:05 p.m. game vs. the White Sox will receive a commemorative “See! You! Later!” T-shirt and a special game scorecard in honor of Carpenter’s signature home run call and industry-standard scorebooks.
Carpenter joined MASN as the Nationals’ television play-by-play voice in 2006 after spending 10 years on television and radio with the St. Louis Cardinals and 16 seasons calling MLB on ESPN. He was nominated for four St. Louis/Mid-America Emmy Awards, winning in 1996 and 1997 as a Cardinals broadcaster. He also earned a National Capital/Chesapeake Bay Emmy nomination in 2008 for his Nationals’ play-by-play work and was named co-D.C. Sportscaster of the Year in 2014 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriter Association. Carpenter was inducted into the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in March of 2017. During his time with the Nationals, Carpenter called three no-hitters, a 20-strikeout game, the 2019 World Series victory and countless home runs.
The on-field ceremony will include a video tribute, messages from former players and colleagues, and a special gift presentation. Ballpark gates will open at 2:30 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. In addition to the pregame ceremony, 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative, “See! You! Later!” T-shirt and a limited quantity of game scorecards will also be available. The weekend series vs. the Chicago White Sox (Sept. 26–28) will also see a special return of the fan-favorite “See You Tater” concessions concept in The Change-Up Food Hall in Center Field Plaza.
