Was a three-year letter-winner at Lake Oswego HS (Lake Oswego, Ore.)…Prior to his prep career, he appeared in the Little League World Series as a member of Lake Oswego Little League, representing the Northwest Team...Went on to attend nearby Portland University, where he played three seasons for the Pilots...Had appeared in just 47 games his first two seasons, but a coaching change ahead of his junior sparked extended playing time, batting .320 (62-for-194) with 14 doubles, five homers and 29 RBI in 54 games that season...Selected by the Brewers in the 18th round of the June 2016 draft...Signed by Brewers scout Shawn Whalen...Has twice been traded during his career, most recently in a one-for-one swap that sent him from Arizona to Seattle in exchange for former Rookie of the Year OF Kyle Lewis...Was also involved in a 2021 trade deadline deal in which Milwaukee sent him to Arizona as part of a package for IF Eduardo Escobar...Hummel was born in Portland, Ore., but also spent a year of his childhood living in Seattle and became a diehard fan of the Mariners, sporting a Mariners logo decal on his bedroom wall...He was able to realize a lifelong dream when he was traded to Seattle in November 2022, eventually appearing in 10 games with the Mariners during the 2023 season...As a second-grader, Hummel began working as a switch-hitter on the advice of a hitting coach who told him that being a switch-hitting catcher was the second-best way to get drafted...Since the end of the 2023 season, Hummel has been a member of three different MLB organizations, despite only appearing in official MLB or Minor League regular-season games with the Astros...On Dec. 1, 2023, he was claimed off waivers by the Mets from the Mariners...Before pitchers and catchers reported for Spring Training in 2024, he was then traded by the Mets to the Giants for cash considerations...Prior to appearing in a Minor League game for San Francisco, he was designated for assignment and eventually claimed off waivers by the Astros...Received his third invite to Major League Spring Training in 2025 and his first with the Astros...Is under a one-year contract for the upcoming season.

2024

Spent Spring Training and began the regular season as a member of the Giants organization, but did not appear in a regular-season game before being designated for assignment and eventually claimed off waivers by the Astros on April 4...Appeared in six games, including one start in left field, through one stint with the Astros...Went 0-for-8 in his big league time, while stealing one base...Had his contract purchased on June 14 and was optioned to Triple-A on July 2...Played the majority of the season with Triple-A Sugar Land, batting .277 (97-for-350) with 55 runs scored, 26 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 59 RBI and an .873 OPS (.419 OBP/.454 SLG)…Led the PCL with a .419 OBP, while also ranking third in walks (79) and 10th in OPS... Also batted .643 (9-for-14) with three doubles, two homers and four RBI during Sugar Land's postseason run en route to the Triple-A National Championship...In his time with Triple-A Sugar Land, he made appearances at left field (43 games), designated hitter (22), first base (21) and right field (16)…Went on two separate on-base streaks of at least 19 games, going on a 19-game streak from April 23-May 17 and a 26-game streak from May 21-July 21.

2023

Made Seattle’s Opening Day roster and appeared in 10 games for the Mariners before being optioned to Triple-A on April 22...Did not appear in the Majors the rest of the year...went 2-for-23 in his 10 games with Seattle...Finished the season strong in Triple-A, slashing .277/.408/.479 with 22 doubles, four triples, eight homers and 40 RBI in 74 games from June 1 through the end of the season...Over his final 34 games from Aug. 1 through the end of the season, Hummel logged a .930 OPS in 34 games...Defensively, Hummel appeared in 12 games behind the plate (11 starts), 54 games at first base (52 starts) and 37 games in left field (36 starts)...Claimed off waivers by the Mets on Dec. 1, 2023.

2022

The Totals - Played in 66 games over three stints with Arizona in his first Major League season and hit .176 (31x176) with eight doubles, three triples, three home runs, 17 RBI and 23 walks...High Five - Reached base safely 5 times (one hit and four walks) on April 13 vs. Houston to become the first player in Diamondbacks history to reach base safely five times in a game within his first 3 Major League contests and first NL player to do so since Gift Ngoepe with Pittsburgh on April 28, 2017 vs. Miami.

2021

Batted .311 (91-for-293) with 21 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 92 combined games with Triple-A Nashville (Brewers) and Triple-A Reno (D-backs)…walked 63 times compared to 61 strikeouts...Tied for fifth among all Triple-A players in triples and walks...Traded to the D-backs on July 28 along with INF Alberto Ciprian, for INF Eduardo Escobar...Hit for the cycle in his second game with Reno on July 31 @ Sacramento...Posted eight-straight multi-hit efforts from Sept. 9-19 and hit .475/1.337 OPS with seven doubles, two triples, three homers and 18 RBI in his final 15 games...Played 12 games with Salt River in the Arizona Fall League and posted a .425 OBP with 12 walks.
