Long completed his fourth Major League season and first with Kansas City in 2024 after signing as a Minor League free agent on Dec. 7, 2023...Began the year in Triple-A Omaha, where he posted a 1.31 ERA (3 ER in 20.2 IP) across 16 outings, until he had his contract selected on May 20...Set career highs in wins (3), appearances (43), strikeouts (44) and ERA (3.16)...Of his 43 appearances in 2024, 32 were scoreless, including 21 of his last 28 since the beginning of July...Pitched to a 2.13 ERA (6 ER in 25.1 IP) on the road and he recorded his lone save on July 30 at Guaranteed Rate Field against the White Sox...Appeared in 19 games in the first half of the season, posting a 2.33 ERA (5 ER in 19.1 IP) with 23 strikeouts...Following the All-Star break, he posted a 3.86 ERA (10 ER in 23.1 IP) despite opponents hitting .202 (17-for-84), 34 points lower than the .236 average against him in the first half...From July 1-Aug. 30, he registered a 1.62 ERA (3 ER in 16.2 IP) across 17 appearances...He struggled in September, allowing seven runs over 11.1 innings (11 G)...Pitched in five of Kansas City’s six games during the 2024 postseason and allowed just one run on one hit in 4.0 innings...He recorded a hold in each of his first three postseason appearances, including Games 1 and 2 of the Wild Card Series in Baltimore.

Long appeared in a career-high 40 games (1 GS) in his lone season with the Oakland A’s, going 0-1 with two saves, five holds, a 5.60 ERA (28 ER in 45.0 IP) and 32 strikeouts... Began the season with San Francisco at Triple-A Sacramento but was dealt to Oakland for cash considerations on April 23... Allowed 5 runs over his first 13.1 innings across 10 outings to begin the season...allowed eight runs (seven earned) in just 6.0 innings over his final five games... Thrived against his AL West rivals, posting a 2.57 ERA (4 ER in 14.0 IP) across 11 games.
2022
Made his first career Opening Day roster with the Giants..His season was cut short after landing on the 60-day IL on Aug. 26 with a right oblique strain that led him to miss the remainder of the year...Worked primarily as a reliever and made 22 appearances out of the bullpen for the Giants...Appeared in eight games over three stints with the River Cats...Was converted to a starter role with Sacramento after he was optioned on Aug. 3...Finished the year with the second-fastest pitch tempo with bases empty in MLB at 12.8 seconds...with runners on base, Long ranked fifth at 19.1s.
2021
Appeared in 12 games (five starts) for SF...went 0-0 with a 6.87 ERA (14er, 18.1ip) in seven relief outings at the Major League level and was 2-1 with a 4.43 ERA as a starter... Made his MLB debut in relief on June 9 at Texas and struck out seven over 4.0 innings...his seven strikeouts as a reliever were the most by a Giant in their MLB debut since John Montefusco had seven in a 9-inning relief stint against the Dodgers on Sept. 3, 1974... Went 1-1 with a 2.34 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 42.1 innings in 16 minor league outings (seven starts) between Low-A San Jose, Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento... In his first Triple-A start on May 29, Long struck out the first eight batters he faced to start the game and nine of his first 10... Struck out 44 percent (37-of-84) of the hitters he faced in the minors before his first call-up on June 9.
