Contreras brothers make history with homers in same inning

It’s been quite the series for the Contreras brothers.

On Thursday, Milwaukee’s threw out his older brother, , at second base in the seventh inning. In Saturday’s affair, the two had an even more impressive feat when they each homered in the ninth inning.

In the top of the inning, Willson crushed his ninth home run of the season 397 feet away to right-center field. In the bottom half of the inning, William hit his sixth homer of the season against Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley.

In the process, Willson and William became the second pair of brothers to homer in the same inning as opponents since 1900, according to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs and the Elias Sports Bureau. They joined Rick and Wes Ferrell, who pulled off the feat in 1933. It was the 11th time brothers have homered in the same inning since 1900, with Bo and Josh Naylor doing it last on April, 10, 2024 for Cleveland -- and on National Siblings Day no less.

The Contreras brothers achieved this impressive feat during an intense game between NL Central rivals, resulting in an 8-5 Cardinals win. Willson was plunked in the shoulder by a Jose Quintana fastball in the fifth -- prompting warnings to both benches -- before he eventually homered later in the ninth inning.
