Corona High School -- located in Riverside County in Southern California -- made MLB Draft history on Sunday.
In the 2025 MLB Draft, Corona’s RHP Seth Hernandez was selected sixth overall by the Pirates, while infielder Billy Carlson was the No. 10 pick by the White Sox. In the process, they became the first pair of HS teammates to be selected top 10 in the Draft. Before them, only 13 groups of teammates from the collegiate ranks had been selected in the top 10.

Corona HS was just getting started. With the 32nd pick, the Brewers selected Corona shortstop Brady Ebel -- the son of Dodgers third-base coach Dino Ebel -- giving Corona three picks on the first day of the Draft. They became the first trio of high school teammates to ever be selected within the top 50 picks of the Draft. There are only two other instances of a high school to even have three teammates selected in the top 100 picks:
- 2019 IMG Academy: Brennan Malone (No. 33 to Arizona), Rece Hinds (No. 49 to Cincinnati) and Kendall Williams (No. 52 to Toronto)
- 1999 Moses Lake HS (WA): B.J. Garbe (No. 5 to Minnesota), Ryan Doumit (No. 59 to Pittsburgh) and Jason Cooper (No. 63 to Philadelphia)

This development wasn’t entirely unexpected as Corona was loaded with MLB Draft talent. Per MLB Pipeline, Corona had four Draft prospects ranked inside their top 150: Hernandez (No. 3), Carlson (No. 7), Ebel (No. 64) and Ethin Bingaman (No. 150).
Not necessarily viewed as a baseball hotbed until recently, Corona had an excellent season, going 28-3 in a dominant season that ended with an upset loss to St. John Bosco in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section semifinal. The public California school has also produced MLB talents like Joe Kelly and Tristan Beck.
