SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox completed a trade today, with IF Rafael Devers joining the Giants in exchange for LHP Kyle Harrison, RHP Jordan Hicks, RHP Jose Bello and OF James Tibbs III.
Devers, 28, is slashing .272/.401/.504 in 73 games with the Red Sox this season with 47 runs, 18 doubles, 15 homers, 58 RBI and a .905 OPS. He ranks inside MLB's top-10 in RBI (58, T-3rd), on-base percentage (.401, 7th) and walks (56, 2nd).
The three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger is a career .279 hitter with 663 runs and 696 RBI across 1,053 MLB games. Since 2018, Devers' 666 RBI are fifth most in MLB over that span, while his 205 home runs are 10th most and his 476 extra-base hits are tied for third most. He is one of four players to have an OPS of 850 or better in each of the last five seasons (also Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman). Since 2019, his 25.9 fWAR is 12th best among position players.
Devers has a career Postseason slash line of .303/.382/.573 with 21 runs, eight home runs and 26 RBI in 26 Postseason games, winning the World Series with the Red Sox in 2018.
Harrison, 23, was the Giants' third round pick in 2020, and is 1-1 with a 4.56 ERA (12er, 23.2ip) and 25 strikeouts in eight MLB games this season (four starts). In his MLB career, he is 9-9 with a 4.48 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 39 games (35 starts).
Hicks, 28, is in the second year of a four-year contract signed last offseason. He was 5-12 with a 4.83 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 42 games (29 starts) with the Giants over the last two seasons. Tibbs III, 22, was the Giants' first round pick (13th overall) last season, and is hitting 246 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI in 57 games for High-A Eugene this season.
Bello, 20, is currently in the ACL. He is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA (4er, 18.0ip) in eight games for the ACL Giants.
Additionally, the Giants selected LHP Joey Lucchesi from Triple-A Sacramento. The Giants' 40-man roster is now at 40.
