Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Thursday night’s series opener against the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field:
- Right-handed pitcher Cole Winn recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
- Right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
The 25-year-old Winn, who was named Rangers Minor League Reliever of the Month for April, has not allowed an earned run in 23.1 innings across 12 relief appearances with Round Rock (AAA) this season. He leads the Express with 3 victories and has posted a 0.94 WHIP and .147 (11-75) opponent batting average with 20 strikeouts and 11 walks. Winn has worked 2.0-or-more innings in 8 of his 12 outings this year, including a season-high 3.0 innings twice (April 11 vs. Oklahoma City, April 19 at Reno). The right-hander has yielded just one hit in 4 May appearances (5.2 IP, 1 R-0 ER), last pitching on Sunday at El Paso (1.0 IP, 12 pitches/9 strikes).
Winn, who was selected by Texas in the 1st round (15th overall) of the 2018 MLB Draft from Orange Lutheran (Calif.) H.S., made his Major League debut with the Rangers on April 14, 2024 at Houston (1.2 IP, 0 R) and owned a 7.79 ERA (15 ER/17.1 IP) with 14 strikeouts and 4 walks across 13 MLB games (all relief) in 2024. He did not permit a hit over his first 5 MLB outings (7.0 IP from 4/14-30/24), holding opponents 0-for-21 to begin his career – the longest hitless span to open a career by a Texas pitcher since at least 1974. In 118 career minor league appearances/80 starts since 2019, Winn is 29-25 with a 5.02 ERA (232 ER/416.1 IP), 432 strikeouts, and a .234 opponent batting average.
Boushley, 31, has posted a 4.50 ERA (6 ER/12.0 IP) with 3 walks and 12 strikeouts over 6 relief appearances spanning two stints (April 8-27, May 1-14) with Texas this season, last appearing for the Rangers in Wednesday night’s win over Colorado (2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO, 49 pitches/29 strikes). The right-hander has seen action in each of the last three seasons (2023-25), owning a 1-0 record and 4.42 ERA (9 ER/18.1 IP) over 9 career MLB relief appearances with Milwaukee (2023), Minnesota (2024), and Texas (2025). The Hortonville, Wisc. native was signed by Texas to a minor league contract on November 15, 2024.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
