Boston, Mass. — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park:
• Outfielder Evan Carter recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
• Outfielder Leody Taveras acquired by Seattle via waiver claim.
Carter, 22, has spent the 2025 season with Round Rock after being optioned by Texas on March 25, batting .221/.333/.416/.749 (17-77) with 3 home runs, 2 triples, 2 doubles, 9 RBI, 13 walks, 23 strikeouts, 6 stolen bases, and 13 runs scored in 21 games for the Express. Each of his 7 extra-base hits on the year have come in his last 14 games since April 10, with Carter reaching safely in 12 of those 14 contests at a .288 (15-52) average with a .577 slugging percentage, the 11th-highest SLG in the Pacific Coast League during that span. The left-handed hitter has primarily appeared defensively in centerfield (17 games/16 starts) while also making starts in leftfield (2) and as the designated hitter (1).
Originally selected by Texas in the 2nd round of the 2020 MLB Draft from Elizabethton (Tenn.) The outfielder appeared in all 17 games of Texas’ 2023 postseason run to its first World Series championship, batting .300 (18-60) with 9 doubles, establishing an MLB record for two-baggers in a single postseason by a rookie. Carter missed the club’s final 108 games of 2024 with a lumbar sprain but returned to action this spring, playing in 15 Cactus League contests with the Rangers.
Taveras, 26, batted .241 (19-79) with one home run, one triple, 3 doubles, 8 RBI, 2 walks, 23 strikeouts, 6 stolen bases, and 7 runs scored in 30 games for Texas this year, making 24 starts in centerfield. The switch-hitting outfielder owns a career .240 average with 39 home runs and 168 RBI in 6 MLB seasons, all with Texas (beg. 2020).
With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
