Arrive early for a pregame panel where panelists discuss their love for swimming and impact it’s made on their lives.
Panelists include:
- Summer Sanders (Olympian): Summer grew up in Northern California where she started swimming at the age of 4. She went on to attended Stanford University where she won back-to-back NCAA swimmer of the year in ’91 and ’92. The summer of 1992, at the Barcelona Olympics, she won 2 golds, a silver and a bronze, becoming the most decorated swimmer of those Games.
- Heather Petri (Water Polo Olympian): Heather Petri, four-time Olympian, helped Team USA win the gold medal in 2012, the silver medal in 2000 and 2008 and the bronze in 2004. Heather is a member of the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame and the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Heather was a two-time All-American at Cal and currently serves as a coach for the Cal water polo program.
- Zach Margolis: In July 2025, Zach Margolis became the 30th person in the world to complete the Oceans Seven challenge by successfully crossing the Tsugaru Strait in Japan. Zach has lived in San Francisco about 15 years, loves swimming in Aquatic Park and volunteers actively with the South End Rowing Club. The Oceans Seven also includes the English Channel, Catalina Channel, Strait of Gibraltar, North Channel between Northern Ireland and Scotland, Kaiwi Channel between Oahu and Molokai, and the Cook Strait in New Zealand.
- Amy Gubsner: The first person to swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Farallon Islands, known for being a great white breeding ground. Amy swam 29.7 miles in water ranging between 43 to 56 degrees without a wetsuit. As a 55-year-old female athlete, Amy inspires people to work towards their goals and dreams to achieve great things!
