Rangers Place 2B Marcus Semien On 10-Day Injured List, Activate OF Adolis García From 10-Day Injured List

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Saturday night’s game against the Cleveland Guardians at Globe Life Field:

Semien injured his left foot on a foul ball during his plate appearance in the first inning on Thursday at Kansas City and was removed from the game for a pinch hitter in the top of the 3rd. The second baseman is making just his second stint on the Injured List in his 13-year Major League career, first since April 15-July 5, 2017 with the Athletics (right wrist contusion). Semien has started 127 of Texas’ 130 games this year and 609 of the team’s 616 games since the start of 2022, the 2nd-most starts by any player in the Majors during that span (613 – Atlanta’s Matt Olson).

The 34-year-old Semien is batting .230/.305/.364/.669 (108-470) with 15 home runs, one triple, 16 doubles, 62 RBI, 50 walks, and a team-high 62 runs scored in 127 games this season, all at second base. Since signing a seven-year contract with the Rangers prior to the 2022 season, he leads Texas in games played (609), hits (610), triples (12), walks (239), runs scored (386), and total bases (1027).

García logged a minimum stay on the 10-day Injured List from August 13-22 with a left ankle sprain, his only stint off the Rangers’ active roster over the last two seasons. The 32-year-old outfielder took live batting practice at Globe Life Field prior to Friday’s series opener vs. Cleveland and was not sent on an injury rehabilitation assignment. In 116 games for Texas this season, his sixth campaign with the Rangers (2020-25) and seventh in the Majors (2018 with STL), García has batted .224/.266/.388/.654 (98-438) with 16 home runs, 24 doubles, 64 RBI, and 46 runs scored, leading the club in doubles, RBI, and extra-base hits (40).

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Tyler Mahle, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
