MLB promotes Moira Weinberg to EVP, Investigations & Security

Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. today announced that Moira Weinberg has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Investigations & Security. In this capacity, Weinberg will continue to oversee Major League Baseball’s Department of Investigations, as she has since 2019, but will now take on expanded oversight of MLB’s Security & Ballpark Operations Department, as well as the age and identification process for international players. Weinberg will report to Deputy Commissioner, Baseball Administration & Chief Legal Officer Dan Halem.

Weinberg joined MLB in 2016 and most recently served as Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, Investigations. Since 2016, Weinberg has conducted and overseen MLB investigations involving issues such as sign stealing, domestic violence, sexual assault, drug use, international signing violations, sexual harassment, and sports betting. In addition to investigations, Weinberg developed and oversaw the implementation of MLB’s Youth Program Protection Policy, which governs abuse prevention in youth programs operated by MLB and Clubs, as well as the league-wide contact tracing process during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Immediately prior to joining MLB, Weinberg was an associate with the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, and she started her career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. The native of Queens, New York earned her B.A. from Tulane University and her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center. Weinberg resides in New York with her husband and two children.

In addition, MLB announced that Rebecca Seesel, MLB’s Vice President of International Operations, will assume responsibility for the league’s operations in the Dominican Republic and the amateur signing process for international prospects worldwide. Seesel will continue to report to John D’Angelo, MLB’s Senior Vice President for Amateur & Medical, under Morgan Sword, MLB’s Executive Vice President for Baseball Operations.

These expanded responsibilities have been announced as Bryan Seeley, MLB’s Executive Vice President, Legal & Operations, has recently joined the newly formed College Sports Commission as its first Chief Executive Officer. Seeley had been with the Office of the Commissioner since 2014.
