Athletics select RHP Duran from Las Vegas; option LHP Lopez to Las Vegas

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Athletics selected right-handed pitcher Carlos Duran from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned left-handed pitcher Jacob Lopez to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s transferred right-handed pitcher Jose Leclerc to the 60-day injured list.

Duran was acquired by the A’s from the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 2 for Esteury Ruiz and will be making his Major League debut. He made one start with Triple-A Oklahoma City before the trade and is 1-0 with an 8.49 ERA in six games, including one start, with Las Vegas. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 6.75 ERA and .737 opponents OPS overall. Duran has a .241 opponents batting average and 18 strikeouts in 16.0 innings but has walked 12 for a .392 on-base percentage. The native of the Dominican Republic is 5-20 with a 4.24 ERA in 88 games, including 80 starts, in six seasons in the minors. He has 344 strikeouts in 282.1 innings (10.97 per nine innings).

Lopez is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in four games, including one start, over two stints with the A’s. He has a .355 opponents batting average and has walked seven batters in 7.0 innings. Lopez began the season at Triple-A Las Vegas and is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in three games, two starts, with the Aviators.

Leclerc was placed on the 15-day injured list April 23 with a right lat strain after going 0-1 with two blown saves and a 6.00 ERA in 10 relief appearances with the A’s.
