CHICAGO -- The White Sox had a focused plan over these two days of the 2025 Draft, involving input from numerous people and departments within the organization, and followed through.
“Extremely excited about being disciplined with what we're trying to accomplish: Middle of the field players,” White Sox director of amateur scouting Mike Shirley said. “Guys that touch offensively, things we talked about yesterday like contact, decisions, some damage stuff in there.
“I really liked just the baseball players that mix in with that crew. More position players dominated than we've gone in the past, which we're excited for because we are looking for some offense and we're looking to continue to try to build that out.”
They started things Sunday by taking three position players (including two high school players). Shortstop Billy Carlson out of Corona High School in California was their top pick at No. 10 overall.
“Honestly, it was kind of a wild Draft, so I was keeping my eyes peeled for everyone,” Carlson said during a Sunday night Zoom call. “It was crazy stuff. I didn't even know they were going to take me. I was just in shock as much as you guys were. It was exciting, and [I’ve been] celebrating with the whole fam.”
“Confident. That’s what you want, right?” Shirley said of Carlson. “You’ve got to believe in yourself to be great at this game. I think he’s structured and wired to function like that on a day-in and day-out basis.”

Landon Hodge, C
- Round 4 (No. 106 overall)
- Bats/throws: L/R
- School: Crespi Carmelite High School (Encino, Calif.)
- Calling Card: The White Sox went 3-for-4 in terms of high school picks, going for a strong and athletic presence with a “hit-over-power” profile, according to Hodge’s MLB Pipeline scouting report. Hodge has a strong arm and is very athletic, but he is a work in progress behind the plate, as would be expected for an 18-year-old.
- Quote: “He's had a lot of adversity in his life that he's overcome. We were very intrigued by his ability to make adjustments, be adaptable. The premium, the body, the way it works, all the good stuff that kind of comes with it. It's kind of unique because you just usually don't get these guys at that price point and being able to secure him in the fourth round was something we couldn't pass on.” -- Shirley
Gabe Davis, RHP
- Round 5 (No. 137 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: Oklahoma State
- Calling Card: Davis struck out 124 over in 94 2/3 innings over three collegiate seasons, while also walking 60 and hitting 17. He checks in at 6-foot-9 and 234 pounds, and when right, Davis' fastball sits in the 94-97 mph range with it touching 100, according to his MLB Pipeline scouting report.
- Quote: “Just saw him in the Cape last week, the velocity's coming back. He kind of went through a bump in the road at Oklahoma State this year, was kind of like a premium guy for us heading into the season. Took him a while to get ramped back up, back in that rotation. But now, as the end of the season started to occur, where he's at presently, we think it's elite stuff.” -- Shirley

Colby Shelton, SS
- Round 6 (No. 166 overall)
- Bats/throws: L/R
- School: Florida
- Calling Card: As a freshman at Alabama, Shelton belted 25 home runs in 203 at-bats, then he launched 27 long balls over his last two seasons with the Gators. According to his scouting report, Shelton has been much more “hitterish” this past season and less about power and less about swing and miss. He was the 20th-round pick of the Nationals in ‘24.
- Quote: “He really did a great job of maturing the approach, swing decisions got better. The defense got quicker, played a much better shortstop this year.” -- Shirley
Anthony DePino, 3B
- Round 7 (No. 196 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: University of Rhode Island
- Calling Card: At 5-foot-11, 218 pounds, DePino is a powerfully built corner infielder. He hit 65 home runs and drove in 179 over four years at Rhode Island, topping out with 20 homers, 61 RBIs and a .354 average in ‘25.
- Quote: “That guy can really hit. What he did at Rhode Island -- I remember seeing him ... last summer and thinking, 'Wow.' And he stole like 21 bases [this season] too. It's kind of a unique profile.” -- Shirley
Blaine Wynk, RHP
- Round 8 (No. 226 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: Ohio State
- Calling Card: Wynk worked primarily out of the bullpen during his two seasons in Ohio, striking out 51 over 48 2/3 innings. He walked 18 in total.
- Quote: “At the combine ... 94-98, really good mover. Good story, small school then Ohio State. Had a bump in the road this year at Ohio State. Able to get him back healthy.” -- Shirley
Riley Eikhoff, RHP
- Round 9 (No. 256 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: Coastal Carolina
- Calling Card: As a four-year performer for an always tough Coastal Carolina squad, Eikhoff saved his best year for last in ‘25. The righty finished 7-2 with a 3.10 ERA and one complete game in 17 starts.
- Quote: “If we go back to the basic principles of why we all chose to play sports, it was about competition and trying to win the game. That’s the goal. This guy helps you win the game.” -- Shirley
Daniel Wright, RHP
- Round 10 (No. 286 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: Iowa
- Calling Card: Wright covered three schools over four years, moving from Iowa Western Community College to Houston to Iowa. He posted a 3.41 ERA over 18 games with the Hawkeyes.
Matthew Boughton, SS
- Round 11 (No. 316 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: Covenant High School, Texas
- Calling Card: He brings five tools to the table, according to Shirley, and was just too talented to pass up. His signability originally was too big, but he changed his mind.
- Quote: “The tools were real, like, all five of them are real. It's shortstop. It's athletic. It's a sweet stroke. It's actions that got everything, too. So that came out of nowhere, we did not expect that. So super excited to get that guy done." -- Shirley
Ely Brown, OF
- Round 12 (No. 346 overall)
- Bats/throws: L/L
- School: Mercer
- Calling Card: The sophomore is a center fielder with good defense and speed.

- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: Texas
- Calling Card: The 176th ranked player overall by MLB Pipeline dropped to the 13th round for the White Sox.
- Quote: “Catcher on the number one team in the country, uh, pretty good start, right? Leader, tough. Good receiver, good thrower, tough out. Handled the SEC grind and performed pretty well in that conference. So able to get him in the 13th, pretty good pick.” -- Shirley
Max Banks, RHP
- Round 14 (No. 406 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: Washington
- Calling Card: Struck out 65 over 74 2/3 innings during his one season with the Huskies.
Caedmon Parker, RHP
- Round 15 (No. 436 overall)
- Bats/throws: R/R
- School: TCU
- Calling Card: The White Sox have been chasing Parker since back in his high school days, per Shirley.

- School: Georgia State
- Calling Card: Hit 16 home runs with 28 doubles and 15 stolen bases after transferring from Auburn.
