MINNEAPOLIS – The Twins remained mum Tuesday regarding a report that manager Rocco Baldelli’s 2026 contract option had been exercised.
Citing club policy, a club spokesman declined comment regarding the report in The Athletic, which came out Monday during the team’s 11-2 loss to the Mariners. Minnesota has dropped 14 out of 17 following a 21-7 hot streak.
Baldelli also said he would not discuss the matter.
“The entire time I’ve been here with the Twins organization, I’ve never commented on anything contractually or anything related to it,” he said. “I’m going to stay there. I spend all my time and my energy right now thinking about our team and how to get our guys in a great place and how to win games. That’s the way I like to keep it. I don’t really have anything to add on that in any way. I’m just spending time on today’s game and on our guys.”
Asked about Baldelli’s status, Twins president of baseball and business operations Derek Falvey expressed support for his manager without making any comment on his contractual situation.
“It’s [about] what are you doing every day to show up to try to put this team in the best position to be successful win or lose the night before,” Falvey said. “You can’t do anything about yesterday or the week before. You have to try to figure out ways. Even this weekend, Rocco, Jayce [Tingler, bench coach], Jeremy [Zoll, general manager] and I, and a number of other staff members, constantly hunting what we can we do to make sure we’re in a better place. How can we help each individual player to put them in the best position to be successful.
“That’s my focus. That’s the evaluation. It’s just making sure no one runs away from the work that is right in front of him, and Rocco is not running away from any of the work. … My focus has been on how do I support him with that, because I do believe he’s got the players’ best interests at heart, and he’s trying to figure out how to solve a challenging equation that we’re all trying to navigate through. He’s not alone in that. We’re all side by side with him, as is the staff and as our core players. We’re trying to figure it out together.”
