Pirates-Tigers game postponed; split twin bill Thursday

DETROIT -- Mother Nature lined up Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes to pitch on the same mound at Comerica Park on Thursday. Unfortunately, they’ll be pitching in different games.

With inclement and potentially severe weather in the forecast, Wednesday’s Pirates-Tigers game was postponed. They’ll make it up with a getaway-day split doubleheader Thursday, with start times at 1:10 and 5:40 p.m. ET.

Skubal and Andrew Heaney, who had been slated to start for the Tigers and Pirates respectively, will start Game 1. Skenes, originally scheduled to start Thursday for the Pirates, will start Game 2. The Tigers have not announced a starter for the second game, but it would normally be Keider Montero’s spot to start or pitch bulk innings after an opener. With a scheduled off-day Monday, Detroit can pitch him without worrying about needing a sixth starter over the weekend.

Tickets for Wednesday’s rained-out game will be good for Game 2 of Thursday’s doubleheader, or can be exchanged for a different game or seat of equal value this season. The Tigers will reach out to ticket buyers with their options. Fans who bought tickets through a secondary vendor should contact them directly to get their options.

Anyone who bought tickets for Wednesday to watch Skubal pitch will need tickets to Game 1. Conversely, fans who bought tickets for Thursday to watch Skenes will need tickets for Game 2.
