With six pitchers on the injured list and a rotation that ranks near the bottom of baseball in ERA, the Blue Jays made moves to address their pitching staff on Saturday.

The team agreed to sign free-agent right-hander Spencer Turnbull and fellow right-hander José Ureña, who was designated for assignment by the Mets earlier this week, to Major League deals, according to a report from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The team has not confirmed.

Turnbull had gone unsigned after spending the 2024 season with the Phillies, going 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA in 17 appearances, including seven starts. Turnbull went on the injured list last June 27 with a right lat strain, which ultimately ended his season.

Turnbull would likely need time in extended spring training to ramp up before joining the Blue Jays.

Ureña signed a Minor League deal with the Mets in late February, and after three appearances with Triple-A Syracuse, he was promoted to the Mets earlier this week. He made one appearance, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in a 19-5 win over the Nationals on April 28.

Ureña is set to join his eighth MLB organization. He and Turnbull would look to shore up a staff carrying a starters' ERA of 4.55 and missing injured pitchers Max Scherzer, Alek Manoah, Erik Swanson, Ryan Burr, Nick Sandlin and Ricky Tiedemann.
