Blue Jays-Marlins trade: RHP Robinson Piña goes to Toronto for Minors righty

The Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday acquired right-hander Robinson Piña from the Miami Marlins in exchange for right-hander Colby Martin.

Piña was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Piña, 26, made his MLB debut with the Marlins earlier this week, while also appearing in 13 contests (11 starts) with Triple-A Jacksonville in 2025, where he posted a 3.47 ERA (22 ER/57.0 IP) with a 3.34 FIP, a 1.19 WHIP, a 29.2% whiff rate, a 31.8% chase rate, and a 47.3% ground-ball rate. The right hander from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, was signed by the Los Angeles Angels as an international free agent in 2017. Between the Angels, Phillies, and Marlins systems, has combined to record a 4.03 ERA over 667.2 minor league innings pitched.

Martin, 24, has appeared in 21 games between Single-A Dunedin and High-A Vancouver this season, combining to post a 1.54 ERA (4 ER/23.1 IP) with a 0.86 WHIP, a .079 opponent average, a 33.3% strikeout rate, and a 41% whiff rate. The right-hander from Ephrata, PA, was selected by the Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of Southeastern University.
