Nationals-Guardians postponed Monday; traditional doubleheader Tuesday
WASHINGTON -- With rain coming down and the dark clouds hovering over Nationals Park on Monday night, the series opener between the Guardians and the Nats was postponed after being in a pregame rain delay for over an hour.
The game was rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader for Tuesday, with Game 1 starting at 3:35 p.m. ET and Game 2 set to start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
Fans with tickets to the originally scheduled May 6 game will be able to attend both games of the doubleheader using the same ticket. Nationals full-, half- and partial-season plan holders can exchange their May 5 tickets and parking for a future 2025 regular-season home game (subject to availability and blackout dates).
Fans who purchased single-game tickets through the Nationals for the postponed game may be able to exchange their tickets to a future Nats regular-season home game, including the May 6 doubleheader.

It will be the second doubleheader the Nationals play this year, after an April 18 snow-out in Colorado led to a DH on April 20, which Washington split.
The Nationals are sticking with their pitching plan, with Jake Irvin, Monday’s starter, set to start Game 1 of the doubleheader and Tuesday’s original starter, Brad Lord, getting the nod for Game 2.
Irvin (2-1, 4.01 ERA), is looking for a bounce-back outing after suffering his first loss of the season after he allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks vs. Philly. Lord, Washington’s No. 22 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, is coming off his best start of the season after delivering five-plus innings of two-run ball last Thursday vs. Philly.
Tuesday will also mark the Guardians’ second doubleheader this season, after earning a split against the Red Sox on April 26 (5-4 win, 7-3 loss). Cleveland will stay on schedule with its starters against Washington. Luis Ortiz (Monday’s probable) is set to start Game 1, and Ben Lively (originally Tuesday’s probable) is slated to start Game 2.
Ortiz and Lively are each coming off strong outings against the Twins. Ortiz threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out five on Wednesday, and Lively threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings on Thursday.
