Miami Marlins outfielder Jakob Marsee Named National League Rookie of the Month for August

MIAMI - Major League Baseball announced today that Miami Marlins outfielder Jakob Marsee has been named National League Rookie of the Month presented by Chevrolet for August.

Marsee, 24, earns his first career MLB monthly honor and is the first Marlin to be named National League Rookie of the Month since left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers in April and May of 2021. He is the sixth different position player and 11th different Marlin to win the award, joining Dontrelle Willis (June 2003), Miguel Cabrera (July and September 2003), Josh Johnson (May and June 2006), Dan Uggla (June 2006), Anibal Sanchez (September 2006), Chris Coghlan (August 2009), Gaby Sanchez (June 2010), Jose Fernandez (August and September 2013), Justin Bour (September 2015).

The left-handed hitter slashed .352/.430/.629 (37x105) with 18 runs, 11 doubles, three triples, four home runs, and 25 RBI while appearing in all 30 games for Miami during the month after making his Major League debut on Aug. 1 vs. New York-AL. With one double and three walks in his debut, he became the first player in Club history to reach base safely at least four times in their first career game; he went on to reach safely in 25 of his 30 games played.

The Allen Park, Mich. native paced the entire National League in average in addition to sitting atop the NL-rookie leaderboard in OBP, SLG, OPS (1.059), runs, hits, doubles, triples, extra-base hits (18), total bases (66), RBI, walks (15) and stolen bases (nine). His 25 RBI marked the most for a NL rookie in any month this season, while he became just the fourth Marlins rookie in club history to reach 25 RBI in a single month: Kevin Millar in July 1999 (26), Bruce Aven in June 1999 (25), and Justin Bour in September 2015 (25) (courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau).

His first month with Miami also featured a franchise-record-tying seven RBI performance on Aug. 13 at Cleveland, where he recorded his first career multi-homer game, and a career-best four hits, in a 13-4 Marlins’ victory over the Guardians.

He led the National League in fWAR (2.1) for the month, and ranked second in wRC+ (188) and wOBA (.445), behind Milwaukee’s Brice Turang (200 wRC+/.458 wOBA), per FanGraphs.

Marsee entered the 2025 season as Miami's No. 8 Top Prospect by MLB Pipeline, in addition to being tabbed as the system's "Best Strike-Zone Discipline" and "Best Defensive Outfielder" by Baseball America. He was originally acquired by Miami on May 4, 2024, from San Diego with pitcher Woo-Suk Go, first baseman Nathan Martorella, and outfielder Dillon Head in exchange for second baseman Luis Arraez.
