The prospect re-rankings are out, and the Mets have a new No. 1

NEW YORK -- Late Sunday evening, the Mets made a flurry of Minor League transactions, promoting Carson Benge, Jett Williams, Jonah Tong and Ryan Clifford to Triple-A Syracuse. All four were enjoying excellent -- in some cases, spectacular -- seasons at Double-A Binghamton. Now all four are a step away from the Majors.
That’s particularly notable for Tong, a 22-year-old pitcher who could conceivably help the Mets as soon as late this season. Although another quick promotion may be a long shot, Tong put himself in this position by producing video game numbers over 20 starts at Binghamton, with a Minor League-leading 162 strikeouts.
Benge and Williams have likewise established themselves as two of the organization’s most interesting position-player prospects. So it’s no surprise that those three, along with a pair of fast-rising pitchers who should reach the Majors even sooner, headlined MLB Pipeline’s revamped Mets Top 30 prospects list, released on Monday.
Here’s a look at the Mets’ top prospects:
1. Carson Benge, OF (MLB No. 20)
2. Jett Williams, 2B/SS/OF (MLB No. 30)
3. Nolan McLean, RHP (MLB No. 37)
4. Jonah Tong, RHP (MLB No. 44)
5. Brandon Sproat, RHP

Biggest jump/fall
Here are the players whose ranks changed the most from the preseason list:
Jump: A.J. Ewing, 2B/OF (Preseason: 28 | Midseason: 7)
A “freak athlete,” Ewing has reached base at a .410 clip this season and generally wreaked havoc once he’s gotten there, stealing 58 bases in 96 games. He’s been caught just nine times. The 5-foot-11 Ewing, a fourth-round Draft pick in 2023, is not a power hitter, but his well above-average speed, strike-zone judgment and bat-to-ball skills make him a potential leadoff hitter at the highest level.
Fall: Jeremy Rodriguez, SS/2B (Preseason: 12 | Midseason: Unranked)
The Mets’ return on the Tommy Pham trade in 2023, Rodriguez has struggled in his first taste of full-season ball at Single-A St. Lucie. Through 93 games he has a .572 OPS. Although Rodriguez is still just 19 years old, plenty young enough to rebound, he no longer ranks among the Mets’ most interesting prospects.
New to the list
Here are the players added to the Top 30 from outside the organization:
No. 9, Mitch Voit, 2B (Pick No. 38 in 2025 Draft)
No. 18, Antonio Jimenez, SS (Pick No. 102 in 2025 Draft)
No. 27, Peter Kussow, RHP (Pick No. 133 in 2025 Draft)
No. 30, Camden Lohman, RHP (Pick No. 253 in 2025 Draft)
