Thomas White, the Marlins' top prospect, struck out 10 batters and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning but also issued a career-high six free passes in his Triple-A debut on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C.

In a game delayed two hours and four minutes by rain, White wasted no time showing he belonged at the higher level by maxing out at 98.5 mph and fanning the first four batters he faced.

An effectively wild White, who ranks as MLB Pipeline’s No. 21 overall prospect, pitched just one clean frame and successfully worked around traffic until it caught up to him in the fifth. After White had his no-no broken up with a two-out single, he gave up a steal, a walk and another single to load the bases. Following a mound visit by Jacksonville manager David Carpenter, White permitted a bases-clearing double on the 94th and final pitch of his start.

White recorded four Ks on his four-seamer and three apiece with his sweeper and changeup; two of them were part of double plays.

Besides Saturday’s ending, White’s Triple-A debut was similar to his Double-A finale a week ago, when he tossed five hitless and scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and four walks to be named Southern League Pitcher of the Week.

White, who turns 21 on Sept. 29, began 2025 with High-A Beloit -- the same level he ended his first full professional season in ‘24. After posting a 2.83 ERA across nine starts for the Sky Carp, he moved up to the Double-A level and lowered his ERA (1.59). He also saw increases to his K/9 (14.9) and BB/9 (4.8) rates with Pensacola in 10 starts.

The 35th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, White should factor into the Jumbo Shrimp’s International League postseason series, which takes place later this month (Sept. 23-24, 25 if necessary).
