MINNEAPOLIS -- Logan Webb grew up just outside of Sacramento in Rocklin, Calif., so he has no shortage of friends and family in the stands whenever he makes a home start at Oracle Park.
But his cheering section will pretty much always include a group of women who have provided constant support throughout his life: his wife Sharidan; his mom Christie; and his grandmothers Jan and Patty.
“It’s the best,” said Webb, who will start Saturday in Minnesota, looking to even the series after the Giants' 3-1 loss in the opener against the Twins on Friday night at Target Field. “When I do pitch at home, I know where they sit. I say hi to them. Just knowing that they’re there always helps out.”
Mother’s Day will be an opportunity for Webb to return the love for the matriarchs of his family. Sunday will be a particularly special moment for Sharidan, who will be celebrating her first Mother’s Day since giving birth to the couple’s first child, a daughter named Mila Rose, last October.
“I think she’s really excited about it,” Webb said. “Honestly, every day, it’s amazing seeing their relationship. She is the best mother in the world.”
Webb was a junior at Rocklin High School when he met Sharidan during a party at a friend’s house.
“I just thought she was cute, so I DM’d her on Twitter,” Webb said. “I forget what I said. But she ended up helping me with homework or something. It took her about a year and a half to finally like me back.”
The two ultimately became high school sweethearts, with Webb leaning on Sharidan through every step of his professional baseball journey. She was there when he was selected by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of high school and saw him overcome Tommy John surgery in the Minors before making his highly anticipated big league debut on Aug. 19, 2019. The couple announced their engagement that offseason and later married in December 2021.
“She’s been the best supporter I could possibly ask for,” Webb said of Sharidan. “She’s my rock through it all.”
Webb’s mom, of course, has been another constant presence who could always be counted on to provide a little extra push when needed.
“She’s very competitive like me,” Webb said. “My dad is competitive, but my mom is very, very competitive. She was also hard on me, too. To this day, if I have a bad game, she’ll just say, ‘Not your best today.’ But I always needed that. My dad was like, ‘It’ll be all right.’ And my mom was like the tough one.
"But she’s been great. To this day, she’s great. She comes to most of my games at home. She’s flown out to a couple other places. She doesn’t like when she doesn’t get to watch me pitch in person. For myself and my brother, we’re just lucky to have her by our side.”
The same can be said for Webb’s grandmas, both of whom have been regulars at their grandson’s sporting events ever since he was in high school. Jan and Patty -- Webb’s paternal and maternal grandmothers, respectively -- moved in together following the deaths of their husbands and have made rooting for Webb and the Giants one of their favorite shared pastimes.
“They never missed a game,” Webb said. “Every high school game, they were always there. They actually brought cookies to the team for every game. They’re the best. I think it starts with them. Our family dynamic starts with those two beautifully strong ladies.”
