The Red Sox announced Monday that they acquired Minor League right-hander John Holobetz from the Brewers, completing the April 7 trade that sent righty Quinn Priester from Boston to Milwaukee.

A fifth-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Old Dominion University, Holobetz has gotten off to a strong start in his first professional season. The righty, who had an outing on April 20 during which he struck out eight consecutive batters, owns a 3.00 ERA with 31 K’s and five walks over 24 innings for Single-A Carolina this season.

Boston also received outfield prospect Yophery Rodriguez and a 2025 Competitive Balance Round A Draft pick in the trade for Priester. Rodriguez, a 19-year-old outfielder who is Boston’s 11th-ranked prospect, has slashed .253/.410/.456 with two homers and five steals over 22 games in High-A this season.

The Red Sox acquired Priester from the Pirates for infielder Nick Yorke in a July 2024 swap of former first-round picks. The 24-year-old hurler had a chance to earn a spot in Boston’s injury-ravaged rotation this spring but lost out to Sean Newcomb in a competition for the job.

The Brewers traded for Priester after losing starters Nestor Cortes and Aaron Civale to injuries in the opening weeks of the season. Priester has posted a 5.79 ERA in five games (four starts) since joining Milwaukee, bringing his career ERA to 6.15 over 123 innings for the Pirates, Red Sox and Brewers.
