MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins announced after Wednesday’s 5-2 win over Baltimore that right-hander Joe Ryan will not make his scheduled start on Thursday due to illness. Instead, Bailey Ober will make the start against the Orioles, which is set for noon CT at Target Field.

Because the Twins had a day off Monday, Ober will be pitching on his usual four days of rest. He last pitched on Saturday, when gave up one run over six innings in a 4-3 win at Boston.

Ober had been slated to start Friday’s series opener against the Giants. The Twins’ starter for that day is now TBA. Ryan could get the nod if he recovers. Otherwise, right-hander Chris Paddack -- Saturday’s scheduled starter -- would be the logical choice to pitch on four days’ rest.

A virus has been going through the Twins’ clubhouse of late. Outfielder Harrison Bader was the most recent victim -- he was scratched from the starting lineup on Tuesday, though he was able to come off the bench on Wednesday with a pinch-hit home run and a crucial catch in left field.
