Top Mets prospect Jett Williams hit in helmet by pitch, avoids concussion
A scary moment unfolded in Binghamton, N.Y., on Friday night as Mets No. 1 prospect Jett Williams was hit in the helmet by a fastball during a game against the Double-A Somerset Patriots.
Williams was leading off the bottom of the first inning when a 1-2 pitch (unofficially clocked at 98 mph) from Patriots right-hander Carlos Lagrange (NYY No. 17) ran up and in, striking Williams near the left earflap of his batting helmet.
Williams immediately fell to the ground, clutching his head, before sitting up and receiving attention from the training staff. After a minute or so, he was able to walk off under his own power and was replaced by a pinch-runner.
Williams appears to have avoided a concussion, a source told MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, and should return to Binghamton's lineup soon.

Williams, the No. 48 prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline, is having a resurgent season in 2025, recording four homers, 17 steals and a .277/.381/.446 slash over 48 games for Double-A Binghamton.
The 5-foot-7 shortstop/center fielder missed much of last season due to a right wrist issue that eventually led to surgery in June. He ended up hitting .215 with no home runs and a .656 OPS over 33 games on the year, appearing at three Minor League levels.
