Giants address allegations regarding Hjelle
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants released a statement on Saturday afternoon in response to abuse allegations against reliever Sean Hjelle that were made by his wife, Caroline, in a TikTok post on Friday.
“We are aware of these serious allegations,” the team said. “We have been in contact with MLB. These type of allegations fall under their jurisdiction, and we won’t be commenting further.”
MLB is aware of the situation and is looking into the social media post.
Hjelle, 28, addressed the media following Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Red Sox and said he and Caroline filed for divorce in May 2024 and are “a signature away” from finalizing the process.
“I don’t have an official comment right now,” Hjelle said. “I would like to talk to my agent, my lawyer. This has been something that has been going on for over a year now in terms of our relationship, our divorce, our separation and everything. I don’t have any official comment right now, I just want to talk to the appropriate people to figure out what the steps are. I’m just taking it in stride right now. No official comment right now. I feel confident saying that I will have one eventually. I don’t have an exact timeline on that, but I would like to actually get with the people that are handling the situation with me and for me before I actually make an official statement.”
Before Saturday’s game, manager Bob Melvin said Hjelle would be available to pitch against the Red Sox if needed and said he found out about the allegations on Friday.
“Obviously, we’re aware,” Melvin said. “He told me about it last night. We talked with MLB. At this point, it’s in their jurisdiction right now, so we really can’t comment any further.”
