Sosa's (groin) injury potentially complicates SS spot for Phils

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies shortstop Edmundo Sosa -- starting in place of the injured Trea Turner -- departed Friday night's 8-2 win over the Royals at Citizens Bank Park in the bottom of the seventh inning with right groin tightness.
The team initially listed Sosa as day to day, but he will be examined more on Saturday. Sosa appeared hobbled a couple of times throughout the game, including after lunging for Tyler Tolbert's single up the middle in the top of the seventh inning. Sosa was lifted for pinch-hitter Weston Wilson in the bottom half with the Phils leading 6-2.
“I just saw him favor it a little bit while he was on defense,” said manager Rob Thomson. “So I checked him out and he said, ‘Yeah, it was a little sore,’ so [it is] precautionary for now.”
Sosa's departure came just four days after the club placed both Turner and third baseman Alec Bohm on the injured list. Sosa has filled in as the primary shortstop in Turner's absence, while Otto Kemp was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take over as the primary third baseman.
Following Sosa's exit, Bryson Stott -- who went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer -- shifted from second base to shortstop, while Wilson took over at second base. Stott would figure to be the next man up at shortstop if Sosa was forced to miss any time.

The Phillies' options at second base would then be Wilson and Donovan Walton, who was also recalled from Triple-A in Monday's flurry of moves. Both Wilson and Walton can also play shortstop, if needed.
